How Teletherapy Sessions Work

Teletherapy sessions run live on secure video with the same licensed therapists who practice in the Cornelius clinic. Parents take an active, coached role, so new skills carry straight into daily routines.

A computer or tablet, an internet connection, and a quiet space cover the setup. The team walks families through it before the first session.

Three Rules That Shape the Choice

The Child Is in North Carolina

Teletherapy sessions require the child to be physically in North Carolina during each session.

Intensives Meet in Cornelius

The Pediatric Intensive Therapy Program runs only in the clinic, with daily visits over two weeks.

Hands-On Parts Happen in Clinic

For services offered both ways, hands-on parts happen in the clinic, while parent coaching and follow-up sessions are available online.

Combining Both Ways to Meet

Many families who live farther from Cornelius combine an in-person evaluation in the clinic with live teletherapy sessions and parent coaching from home, keeping progress steady between visits.

Sources and How This Tool Works

Drive distance and time come from OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM) between each town center and the Cornelius clinic, without traffic. Service availability follows each service page: services marked for in-clinic and teletherapy delivery offer both, teletherapy services meet only by video, and the Pediatric Intensive Therapy Program meets only in the clinic. Teletherapy requires the child to be physically in North Carolina during each session, because the team's licenses cover North Carolina. The home-internet note appears only for counties clearly below the state rate in U.S. Census Bureau data (households with a cable, fiber, or DSL subscription). School calendar links go to each district's own calendar page.
