Sources and How This Tool Works
North Carolina General Statute 115C-364 entitles a child to enter public school if the child reaches age 5 on or before August 31 of that school year and is presented for enrollment within the first 120 days of the school year; kindergarten is the point of entry. The calculator finds the first August 31 on or after the child's fifth birthday. The statute also covers exceptions (for example, a child who attended school in another state, or certain children of deployed military parents), which the calculator does not apply. The milestone checklist reproduces the CDC's 5-year milestones from Learn the Signs. Act Early.; CDC milestones are skills most children (75% or more) show by that age.
