Physical Therapy

Physical therapy services at IWT address the unique needs of children and adolescents with a variety of delays, disorders, or injuries. Our team provides PT services for individuals birth-18 years old. the goals of PT are to support growth and development, through therapeutic exercises, manual therapies, assistive devices, and parent/caregiver training and education.

Development Milestones

Birth to 3 months:

  • Lifts head briefly when lying on stomach.

  • Moves arms and legs equally.

  • Brings feet to hands/mouth while on back

4 to 6 months:

  • Rolls from stomach to back.

  • Sits with support.

  • Begins to support weight on legs when held upright.

  • Pushes body off ground with arms during tummy time

7 to 12 months:

  • Rolls from back to stomach

  • Sits without support.

  • Crawls on hands and knees.

  • Pulls self up to stand.

  • Cruises along furniture.

  • Brings self into a seated position independently

12 to 18 months:

  • Stands alone momentarily.

  • Takes first independent steps.

  • Walks independently.

18 to 24 months:

  • Runs stiffly.

  • Walking while holding a toy

  • Changes directions while walking

  • Climbs onto furniture.

  • Walks up and down stairs with help.

  • Imitates to roll a ball

2 to 3 years:

  • Runs more smoothly.

  • Jumps with both feet leaving the ground.

  • Climbs stairs with alternating feet.

  • Picks up toys from the floor without falling over

3 to 4 years:

  • Hops and stands on one foot for a few seconds.

  • Catches a large ball with arms extended.

  • Pedals a tricycle.

  • Imitates simple bilateral movements

  • Running with control

  • Climbs on ladders + jungle gyms

  • Walks up and down steps alternating feet

  • Throwing overhand

  • Catching a ball

4 to 5 years:

  • Skips and gallops.

  • Throws a ball overhand.

  • Rides a bicycle with training wheels.

  • Runs arounds obstacles

  • Walking along a line

  • Hopping on one foot

  • Jumping over an object and landing with both feet together

5 to 6 years:

  • Jumps rope.

  • Throws and catches a ball with more accuracy.

  • Balances on one foot for 10 seconds or longer.

  • Able to perform a forward roll

7 to 10 years:

  • Throws a ball farther and more accurately.

  • Rides a bicycle without training wheels.

  • Skips smoothly.

  • Runs smoothly with arms opposing legs

  • able to move across monkey bars with no support
